Joshua Cammack, Sam Gibson, Jackson Rush and Mason Vellios are the latest St Stephen's School graduates to study at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). They join 12 Carramar and Duncraig campus students from previous years who have swelled WAAPA ranks. The four, from Carramar campus, won places in Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education and Advanced Diploma of Music Production courses, much to the delight of school music director Shannon de Bie.
Joshua (19), of Joondanna, hopes a degree in composition and technology will launch a career composing music for video games while Mason (18), of Carramar, wants to compose for movies or orchestras. Bachelor of Music Education (Jazz) student Sam (17), of Ocean Reef, sees himself as a professional musician, writing and playing original pieces. "Already there is an amazing culture and sense of camaraderie in my course," he said. Jackson (18), of Ocean Reef, wants to use the advanced diploma in sound to become a professional sound mixer or musician, using music as "a vessel for self expression."
